Two-Man Operation Relies on Simple System
- One welder/wire feeder combination meets all needs
- 4-position control switch simplifies process selection
- Superior multiprocess performance gets the job done right the first time
- Lightweight portability enables both shop and field use
Customer Testimonial
“These machines make it easy to switch from Stick application mode, where we do our gouging, back to the voltage sensing feeder mode for welding. For our repairs, the XMT and X-TREME offer the features we need.”
— Jeremy Bohm, owner, JR’s Welding
Application
Rebuilding and repair [shop and field] work on heavy equipment, such as buckets, booms, blades, or heavy equipment that has been worn by excavation or abrasive applications.
Key Business Issue
Maximize welding efficiency in a two-person operation.
Challenge
Simplify equipment selection by using the “least” equipment possible to get the most work accomplished without undermining quality.
Previous System & Process
Conventional 250-amp welders and portable wire feeders.
New Solution
- Miller's XMT 350 VS paired with a SuitCase X-TREME 12VS feeder.
- Designed for use with the SuitCase X-TREME voltage-sensing feeder, the 80-lb. XMT 350 VS moves easily between the shop and field job sites. The XMT 350 VS simplifies welding because its single process selector switch only has four options (Stick, MIG, Lift-Arc™ DC TIG and scratch start TIG), while its Auto-Line function enables it to run off any primary power from 190 to 630 VAC.
Results
- One welding system to meet most welding needs. “It's always a breakdown, and the customer needs it repaired immediately. They call you today, but they want it done yesterday, so I need to be able to pick up and go. This feeder [SuitCase X-TREME 12VS] makes it easy for me to travel around.”
— Jeremy Bohm, owner, JR's Welding - Lightweight portability. “The [XMT] 350 is nice and light, so we can slide it into our trailer, grab the [SuitCase] feeder and get on the road real fast. Our work here varies drastically. We might be doing one thing in the shop in the morning, but in the afternoon we might have the X-TREME in the truck out in the field working.”
— Jeremy Bohm, owner, JR's Welding - Multiple process flexibility. In addition to carbon arc gouging and Stick welding, the XMT 350 VS offers a true CV output for MIG and flux cored welding. “The XMT runs a lot smoother than other machines I've used. I've got more arc control, and it makes a world of difference. And with the X-TREME's start control [Soft Start], I get a much smoother arc start without popping or flaring.”
