More than 60,000 domestic and international buyers gathered Nov. 4-7, 2014 at the Las Vegas Convention Center where 2,000 newly introduced automotive specialty products including parts, tools and components were on display. Top shops wowed attendees with their latest custom builds and the industry’s brightest minds participated in a variety of product demonstrations, educational seminars and special events throughout the week. New to the Miller booth in 2014 were the Millermatic® 141 and Millermatic® 190 MIG welders, Syncrowave® 210 TIG/MIG Complete and a variety of new helmet graphics including Blue Flame™ and Hot Rod Garage™ from the Digital Elite™ Series line-up.

Booth visitors were able to explore and test the latest products — many with show specials — and get questions answered during scheduled presentations addressing welding in the home garage and welding with aluminum.

Also unveiled and on display at the SEMA show were incredible award-winning vehicles from builders nationwide including several builds from our Miller partners and friends. The Ringbrothers and Pure Vision both won big in Vegas this year, and we’re not talking at the Black Jack table.

With their 1966 Chevrolet “Recoil” Chevelle, Mike and Jim Ring took home several awards including the 2014 Chevrolet Design Award and a 2014 Mother’s Choice Award that is presented to the nine runners-up to the prestigious Mother’s Shine Award announced annually at SEMA.

Likewise, Pure Vision owner Steve Strope won the coveted 2014 Ford Design Award (a back-to-back title Strope holds) as well as a 2014 Mother’s Choice Shine Award.

Both shops were also top ten finalists in the first-ever SEMA Battle of the Builders™ competition. Miller partner shop Hollywood Hot Rods was also part of the Top 10:

  • Dale Dondel, ’14 Ford Raptor Pre-Runner
  • Kyle Tucker, ’69 Camaro
  • Larry McCrae, Jeep JK
  • Ringbrothers, ’66 Chevy Chevelle
  • Troy Ladd, ’32 Ford Roadster
  • Jeff Kinsey, ’32 Ford 4-Door Sedan
  • Steve Strope, ’67 Ford Black Ops Fairlane
  • Gordon Aram, ’78 Ford Mustang II
  • Bobby Alloway, ’37 Chevy Coupe
  • Rick Dore, ’48 Jaguar

But it was Kyle Tucker of Detroit Speed & Engineering — with the 1969 Chevy Camaro — that was announced the big winner of the competition. Featured in the 2014 Miller WE BUILD Dreams video, Kyle (and Stacy Tucker) competed alongside more than 125 builders and their vehicles from across the country. Editors of leading automotive magazines served as judges, selecting the Top 10 builders. The Top 10 builders then selected the winner from among their peers. Congratulations to all of the shops that participated and/or had vehicles on display at this year’s SEMA show.

Finally, Miller was presented with a unique COE truck sculpture as a thank you gift by SEMA artist and fabricator Max Grundy and Josh Welton of Brown Dog Welding. A similar COE truck completed by Grundy (with help from Welton) was on display along with other amazing artistry in the SEMA ARTWALK that was located in the bridge between the Central and South halls. Watch this video to learn more about the SEMA ARTWALK, artists Welton and Grundy and how Miller products were used to build the COE truck.
